In just seven years, Hispanic youth will account for about 25% of adolescents between age 10 and 19 in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Adolescent Health together with the Office of Minority Health recently produced a snapshot about Hispanic adolescents on a range of indicators, including health care, teen pregnancy, higher education, and mental and physical health. A new report shows universal early education in New Jersey, mandated preschool starting at age three, has lasting positive effects on student achievement. In 1998, New Jersey required state-wide early childhood education beginning at age three, impacting nearly 45,000 students today.
